Sandra Dabney sent me the following humorous gun story that I just had to share: A guy cruises through a stop sign and gets pulled over by a local policeman. Guy hands the cop his driver’s license, insurance verification, plus his concealed carry permit “Okay, Mr. Smith,” the cop says, “I see your Texas CCW permit. Are you carrying today?” Smith: “Yes, I am.”
“Well then, better tell me what you got.” Smith: “Well, I got a .357 revolver in my inside coat pocket. There’s a 9mm semi-auto in the glove box. And, I’ve got a .22 magnum derringer in my right boot.”
“Okay,” the cop says. “Anything else?” Smith: “Yeah, back in the trunk, there’s an AR15 and a shotgun. That’s about it.”
“Mr. Smith, are you on your way to or from a gun range…?” Smith: “Nope.”
“Well then, what are you afraid of…?” Smith: “Not one damn thing!”

It’s a funny story, but it does bring up a very important matter. There are people who want to outlaw guns in order to get them out of the hands of the criminals. When outlawing guns will only serve to take guns away from law abiding citizens. Instead of trafficking drugs from across the border… criminals will begin to traffic guns.
The facts speak for themselves. The States with the largest increases in gun ownership also have the largest drops in violent crimes. Thirty-one states now have such laws —called “shall-issue” laws. These laws allow adults the right to carry concealed handguns if they do not have a criminal record or a history of significant mental illness. For each additional year that a concealed handgun law is in effect the murder rate declines by 3 percent, rape by 2 percent, and robberies by over 2 percent.
It’s better to have a gun and not need it; than to need a gun and not have it!”
